A Man After God's Own Heart

What does it mean to be a man after God's own heart?

Being a person after God's own heart means living in complete harmony with Him; being burdened by His burdens; obeying His command to go to the right, to the left, or to stay right there where you are. In a nutshell, it's having a heart that is completely His.

God's choices are not based on human reasoning, but on the essential qualifications of the heart. Simply, God looks for those that possess a heart like His.

When God's searching eyes stop and fix their gaze upon you, does He find a heart fully committed to Him? A heart grieved by wrong, intent on avoiding what displeases Him? Does He find a heart that is without a doubt, completely His?

"For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His." 2nd Chronicles 16:9

As the above scripture says, God seeks those hearts that He might support them, because His choice is the one that is teachable, humble, dependent, and reliant only upon His power.

True servants are those who are genuinely unaware of themselves-someone unconcerned about who gets the credit or the glory, the don't care about a public image, and they don't care what people might say about them. It takes a heart full of humilty to have a heart like God's.

Wonder if this is true? Go to scripture and look at the life of King Saul. Saul was good looking, charismatic, and strong. God was with him at first, then Saul started reading his own news clippings. He got arrogant and ignored what God had told him to do and behaved the way he wanted to! Thus, Saul was abandoned by the Spirit.

God has little use for handsome, charismatic Sauls. What He values most are deeply spiritual, genuinely humble, honest to the core servants.
