Stoplights

We live in a society afflicted by "stoplights", both literal and figurative.

The other morning I was in a hurry to get to an appointment across town and I hadn't allowed any "wiggle room" before I left the house. Have you been there? Pants not ironed, hair that won't lie down or stand up just right?  It seemed that at every intersection the green lights turned red, I would be just this much too late. I would come to a stop, frustrated by a stoplight that impeded my progress. Or was it simply frustrated with the person driving 35mph in what I would like to be a 75 mph zone?

This is a frustrating way to start the day but one that we have all dealt with from time to time.
Life for us is mostly a matter of coping with the "stoplights". We set out in life, full of hope, to accomplish something that we think is worthwhile in our eyes. Yet, before we are well on our way, we run into a stoplight or some other unexpected delay.

The way we deal with stoplights in our lives will witness to the significance of our faith. Will we handle them with patience and good cheer? Or will we show ourselves, through frustration and anger?

We should so patience and love so that "the life of Jesus may also be revealed" in us. The quality of our faith is revealed in the way we cope with the things that we can't control or avoid. Even inconvenient interruptions need not be total disasters-not if we live in the presence of God.
