“And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, "Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew ‭18:2-3 ‭ESV‬‬

Have you ever sat back and watched a kid around a swimming pool? Whether they can swim or not, you have to watch them very carefully. So many of them have no fear whatsoever. Deep or shallow, it doesn't matter to them. Fearless and not fully aware of the dangers, they jump, confident that everything will be okay because mom or dad is there to save them. A simple, but not simpleminded, approach to life.

This is the picture of the complete dependence that Christ shows us in Matthew 18:2-3, a dependence necessary to enter His kingdom, to be great in His kingdom, to be His servants for all the world. A dependence marked with a simple approach to life. A dependence using the knowledge, gifts, and abilities He created each one of us with to make decisions that honor Him and not us. And then just like the kid at the pool, holler out, "Here I come! Watch me!" knowing full well He will be there to make sure it all turns out okay.

You may not believe that God stands ready to catch you in His arms. You may not have had the benefits of being raised in a secure and loving home that you provide for your kids. Maybe instead of loving, protecting, and defending you, those that we supposed to did the exact opposite. They didn't catch you when you jumped or picked you up when you fell down.

If there is one thing I can tell you is that you find someone to share with, someone you can trust with these difficult moments in your life. Someone who by their example gives you a glimpse of the loving nature of God. A God that you can trust to always provide and who wants the very best for you. Start there to catch the view of God, the one who waits for you to jump. It is there, in the jumping, that you start to develop the trust that, deep down, every single one of us desires.

Simple? Yeah it is. Necessary? Absolutely. When we adopt a simplistic approach in our own lives things become a little less complicated. If we ask it of Him, God will give us the faith of a child.
