Choice

"Yet I planted you a choice vine, wholly of pure seed. How then have you turned degenerate and become a wild vine?" Jeremiah 2:21 ESV

While scrolling around Facebook today I've noticed a few things: everyone is up in arms about the "clowns" threatening our kids safety, whether Gus Malazahn is going to last through the football seasons end, which person, Hillary or The Donald, is better equipped to lead our country, and I could go on and on.

While all this bantering is going on our country, is tearing itself apart at the seams. We are more worried about whether a football player shows the proper respect for our national anthem than we are the rights and dignity of our fellow man. We are too busy debating who would make a better president to notice the hurting people living in our own communities.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: there are good cops, there are bad cops; just like there are good men and bad men. Everything that happens is due to one simple thing: choice! You choose to be a good man or a bad man. You choose to rob a liquor store or not. You choose to be respectful of those in authority over you or not. It's all about the choices we make each and every day.

We act like this is the first time the world has seen a society turn inwards and destroy itself. But we are warned of this in God's word. Go back and read the passage below and learn with me about the decision placed before the Israelite people.

“"Now therefore fear the Lord and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." Joshua 24:14-15 ESV "If you forsake the Lord and serve foreign gods, then he will turn and do you harm and consume you, after having done you good." Joshua 24:20 ESV

God told them through Joshua that they had a choice to make. They could either serve God and live or serve the heathen gods they had left behind and suffer. This is exactly what we are experiencing in this country today. We as a country have turned our backs on God and thus He has turned us over to the wrath we deserve. It starts at home and bleeds out everywhere else. We all have a choice to make.

We all have the capacity to do evil and despicable things but we also have the capacity to do great and wonderful things. God made us all on His image and gave us all free will to choose whether or not we would be good or bad. We can choose to sin or not. From the ghetto to the country club, from the farm to the burrows of Manhattan, we all have a choice about what we will do and who we will be.

The man in Missouri had a choice. The police officer in Oklahoma last week had a choice. The people in Charlotte had a choice. I have a choice. You have a choice.

Which will you choose?

Love or hate?

Light or dark?

A life of sin or redemption and grace?

It's all about choice!
