Precious

Turn on the TV and watch the news anywhere in the country and there is one thing that you will most likely hear about...murder. It happens in the big cities like St. Louis, Missouri, Chicago, Illinois and Detroit, Michigan to small communities like Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Rocky Mount, North Carolina, or Fort Pierce, Florida. Whether it is a random act of violence or a premeditated crime, it is death all the same. Most of the criminal suspects are young men that don't understand the value of a life. Maybe they see human beings as cosmic accidents and life as a series of random events. Maybe they don't care about other peoples lives because no one has ever really cared about theirs. Maybe they believe everyone is out for themselves because that is all they have ever seen demonstrated by those around them. I honestly don't know their stories. But i do know that when a young man feels like no one really cares about him or that he feels like his life has no value, it is easy for him not to care about anyone else. And then taking the life of another person might not seem like such a big deal.

It bothers me that our culture devalues life the way that it does. It has devalued it in the video games our kids play, the music we play on our radios, the movies pay hard earned money to watch, and the TV shows we view in our homes. Unless kids have people in their life that will teach them that life should be respected and protected, they may not get the message. It surely will not come from the entertainment industry, who sadly has become too much of a "free babysitter" to many in our society. The world has gone too far in its casual approach to the value of human life. And that is a slap in the face to God and totally opposes His view on the subject.

So what exactly does Jesus say about this subject? Check out Matthew 6:25-26....

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” Matthew 6:25-26 ESV

Jesus is teaching about the value of human life. God knows each and every one of our needs and desires even before we can tell Him about them. He cares about every aspect of our lives. Even the mundane day to day details. We are highly valued by Him and He considers each life to be a precious thing. God is there on the mountain top, celebrating the wins as well as in the valleys when we are at our lowest point and feel like we can't carry on. And what does He tell us? Don't worry!

Whatever you have been through, what ever tragedy you have experienced in life, even if it is going on right now, hear me when I say this, you have to know that God cares about you in every circumstance. He highly values you and considers your life more precious than gold. In my humble opinion it only makes sense to agree with Him.
