In my line of work I have had to deal with more than my share of homeowners that were among the thousands of families that had houses that were built using sheetrock made in China. They had no idea at the time that the home being built could one day cause so many problems or that it was even something that they should be worried about. One house I remember, their bathroom wall got wet which then began to become a large bulge. They considered just cutting out the spot that was bad and patching it but instead they called a contractor to come out and inspect their home. They wanted to make sure that it was repaired correctly the first time to stop a recurring issue.
When he arrived, however, he discovered that this problem was not just in the bathroom but in the entire house. You see, the drywall that was manufactured in China absorbed water and would begin to swell and produce toxic fumes that would make anyone that spent any amount of time there very ill.
Most of the families that I have had dealings with have had to tear their whole home back down to the foundation and start all over again because the fumes would invade everything in their home. What was hiding in the their walls would invade and poison nearly every aspect of their life.
Guys, sin in our lives is just like that sheetrock. You can ignore and cover the issues in your life and even patch some of them temporarily, but they will rear their ugly head again. Sin is like an infection that grows under the skin. It starts out as a little something that doesn't seem like a big deal but left to fester it can get in our blood and cause a major problem. It doesn't matter which sin you suffer with, if left unrepented it will kill you.
The key to removing this "infection" from your life is found in reading God's Word and prayer. They can help you avoid the deadly issues in your life. The Word helps us see beyond what is on the outside to what is in our heart, to make us question our motivation, and to help cleanse us from those things that we are determined to keep hidden. Another way to keep sin from poisoning us is a having a high level of accountability.I have a few brothers in my life that have unlimited access and they have free reign to correct me or reproof me if they deem it prudent.
