Knee Knocking Moments

"This is MY command - be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9 (Emphasis on "my")

I would bet money that if you close your eyes after reading that, that you could almost hear Joshua's knees knocking together, you could feel his pulse racing, and watch the nervous sweat that is pooling up on the ground around him. There is no doubt that this time in his life was one of high stress and high anxiety. It is the moment that he realizes that this was the position that God had called him to take and lead His people. Moses was gone and now it was up to him to lead the people of Israel into the Promised Land.

If you close your eyes really tight for a minute and imagine with me I bet you can hear him saying to himself, "You want me to do WHAT? Me? Are you sure Lord? There has got to be someone else more qualified to do this." I am currently wondering to myself how many of us have felt exactly the same way more than one time in our life?

If we are honest with ourselves we have all been where Joshua is right at that moment. And the crazy thing is that something that happened 3,000 years ago is just a relevant today as it was then! The cool thing: God made a promise. The promise that God will go through it with you and that He will go ahead of you across what ever "Jordan River" you are facing. He doesn't promise that it will be easy. He doesn't tell us that we can do what we want or stray from His presence. If we do we will lag behind and get lost. We have to stay close to His side in order to accomplish what He has for us to do. And the other cool thing: wherever we go is exactly where God will meet us.

What "Jordan" are you facing today? An illness? A career change? A personal challenge? Perhaps your relationship with God has gone stale and needs freshening up? Or maybe there is something that you know you were supposed to do a long time ago? It might be time to stop wading in the shallow water and jump feet first all the way in.

God calls us all to be strong and courageous, always know that He is with you. Anywhere and Everywhere!
