What's Your Mind Set?

Our thoughts, negative or positive, direct so much of what we do and how we live. In other words, our actions are a product of what we think. For instance, you think about the possibility of losing your job and begin to think thoughts of hopelessness. It is those thoughts that then propel us into a course of action. With our thoughts governing our actions so closely, it is vital that we condition our minds to be influenced by God's truth more than anything else.

When your mind is influenced by the world around you it ends in hopelessness, fear, and worry but when our thoughts are influenced with God's truth there is life, contentment, trust, and ultimately peace. Now, as you begin to live a life based on His truth there will still be times where connecting the truth that you know and the thoughts you think that will be hard to do. It's human to know truth and at the same time struggle to live it out.

In Mark 9:4, a father exemplifies this when he says, "I do believe, but can you help me overcome my unbelief?" This father is basically saying, "Really I do believe, God. In my heart I know your truth Lord, but can you help me overcome the fear in my mind? The fear that only you can drive away!?" This will be you at times. Brother and sister, this is me at times. We all have the same struggle at various times in our lives.

There are times when God's truth will become disconnected from the reality of our daily lives. The tendency is to allow our worry and fear to gain control of our life rather than trust in God and His power and this negatively effects our actions. But my friend, if we force ourselves to throw our doubts and fears at Jesus feet He has promised to help us make things reconnect again. He will bring the truth of His word to the forefront of our minds. He will nudge us to worship through music, prayer, or the reading of His word. It is the last thing he will want to do but it's the the thing that will change and reconnect our thoughts to His truth the fastest. Reading God's word will bring unbelieveable peace if you simply will read it faithfully and allow God to speak to you through it.

Spend five minutes a day reading His word for a month and tell me that God didn't change your perspective and that your mind isn't reconnected with His truth. Allow His word to saturate your mind and your spirit. I promise that over time it will become what you crave and live your life for.

"For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace." Romans 8:6 ESV

"Finally brothers, what ever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." Philippians 4:8 ESV
