Break-Dancing For God

If you have ever seen me dance I apologize. I am gifted at a great many things but alas dancing is not one of them. Dancing has always been a way for people to express themselves, especially to celebrate. If you are anything like I am your dancing is limited to being alone in your bathroom or kitchen, when you are totally sure there is no one recording it to send to America's Funniest Videos or YouTube. If you are anything like me you can tap your toes to the beat and bob your head along with the rhythm but that is the extent of your dancing. I prefer this more laid back approach (like I said I can't dance).

David was one that would jump and jive for God. He loved to dance before the Lord. One time in particular, David broke it down so hard he almost danced out of his clothes because he was so excited about bringing the ark of the Lord back to its rightful place. David danced so much that others around him became ashamed of him because they believed his dancing was too much and that he "didn't need to do all that" for God. The thing is that those that criticised David didn't understand how much it meant to David to have the ark back where it belonged.

As men devoted to God we should all be like David. We don't have to dance out of our clothes (y'all can thank me later), but when we are in a place of being thankful to God we should feel free to express your thankfulness without worrying what others will think about you. David praised God because of what was happening in his life and that meant more to him than anything or anyone elses opinion of his actions. We should operate with the same focus and will to praise God for being great in our lives, regardless of what others say or how it makes us look.

What in your life do you need to take the time to praise God for today? Another question is: do we praise Him for the struggles as much as we do the victories?

"And David danced before the Lord with all his might. And David was wearing a linen ephod. So David and all his house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the horn. As the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal the daughter of Saul looked out of the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, and she despised him in her heart." 2nd Samuel 6:14-16 ESV
