It takes a father

It is well documented that fatherless homes are far more likely to produce young men and women who under perform academically, abandon their faith, become addicted to drugs or alcohol, and engage in violent crime. These are all too sad truths to the way our world is working these days.

Guys, the enemy has us all in his sights. He wants us to fail at being fathers and husbands. There is so much at stake and we require  much spiritual depth and courage to retake the ground that we have already given up.

Now, do you want some good news?

We serve a God that is the perfect Father and He wants to teach us and empower us to succeed as earthly fathers and husbands. His word provides us with guidance, encouragement, and complete instruction on how to model His attributes and raise our girls and boys right! Hope is not lost!

But fellas, we have to understand Satan's methods if we are to win these battles on a daily basis.

I once heard a old man say: "Satan's lies are like hot sauce. Some are flaming hot and some are more mild. His goal is to get us to consume any flavor of deceit, be it radical or tame." Have you heard these lies: You deserve a better family, God doesn't care about you, You got this one, or It's ok to work late every night so your family can have a better life. I could keep going with the many lies of the enemy and I am sure that you could add some too.

If the enemy can't get us to physically leave our family or completely shut down our role as the spiritual leader in our home, he will at least will try to convince us that we have to try to accomplish it under OUR OWN power. If there is one thing that our mutual enemy knows it is that if we are alone we are easier to pick off. It is easier to take out one man than it is taking out 3 or 5 of them all at once.

When you go fishing you use colorful bait to trick the fish into biting and the enemy uses the same thing with us in the form of lies and other tricks that he has had centuries to perfect. The only way I know to ward off the tricks and schemes of the enemy is to commit to being the spiritual leader in your home by relying on God's power and not our own. The Lord wants us to succeed, for our own sake but also for the sake of our kids.

"Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world." 1st John 4:4 ESV

"Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you." 1st Peter 5:8-10 ESV
