New York State of Mind

"Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and shrewd in their own sight!"
Isaiah 5:20-21 ESV

Earlier this week as I was riding in my truck, I heard a news story over the airwaves that both took my breath away and made me pull over on the side of the road. The lawmakers of the state of New York voted into law a "new" abortion law that is some cases gave authority to end a pregnancy in the 3rd trimester. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo called it "a historic victory for New Yorkers and for our progressive values" on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion in the United States.

The state of New York's legislative body has taken a footstep closer to the edge of no return. They say that you can no longer give a lethal injection of drugs to a person that commits horrendous acts of murder but it is perfectly fine to give the same injection to a defenseless child. While our country argues about the shutdown of our government offices and the debate about building a wall on our southern border, the State of New York made it legal to abort, wait, abort isn't the right word. When you abort something it is because the plan fell through or because the mission was deemed too dangerous to continue without massive loss of life. What the State of New York has done is legalize the murder of countless human beings. Where is our humanity? Where is the dignity and sanctity of life that we are supposed to care about? All they have achieved is making murder legal by wholesale extermination. And we as American's have sat back and allowed it to happen. We get all upset when someone attacks our country or kills our servicemen in the field but when we allow the wholesale murder of defenseless children I fear that our sense of morality is terribly broken. Our knowledge of right and wrong is completely missing from our thought process.

I am married to a wonderful and fearfully made woman. A woman that suffers from a debilitating disease that causes her to not be able to take in nourishment like everyone else. And as a result, it has made her unable to carry a child to term. We have tried multiple times to have a child together and it has resulted in two miscarriages and the ultimate long face from the doctors that we cannot have children the old fashioned way. So to see the pain on her face when she hears or reads about things like what New Yorkers have endorsed doesn't just hurt me, as a husband that loves his wife, it pisses me off. I have seen the psychological impact it has had on her to miscarry both times. What I can't imagine is the impact that this will have on the individual that has spent 7-9 months carrying a living, breathing person inside their body only to decide at the last minute that this isn't what she wants. The grief that they must carry...

Where is the rest of the country on this? Where is the indignation of the masses? Being a believer, I trust that God has a plan for everything that happens under heaven. I know that He is in ultimate control of all but this one has me stumped. I just don't understand how a woman can knowingly put herself in the position to get pregnant then when it does happen simply make the choice to end it, especially if you have seen it through to the 7th or 8th month of pregnancy. The only explanation is that we live in a fallen and sinful world and one day we will ALL have to answer for the actions we have taken in our lives.

But the Governor of New York signed the law with a smile on his face like he had accomplished a monumental feat. All the while he has homeless people starving on the streets of his largest city, drugs and the trafficking of children and women run rampant in his state. What does Gov. Andrew Cuomo have to be happy about? He sits at his desk, a smile on his face and signs a bill into law that will allow fully developed babies to be aborted on a whim. Not to mention it will allow non-doctors to perform the procedure. Where does it end? What have we become as a nation?

I am taking a stand for those that can't speak for themselves. I will fight for the dignity of human life as God defines it. I will fight for my children. I will fight for your children. This cannot stand. We must fight for the future of our country and we must bend the knee to God and beg His forgiveness for allowing His creation to become so warped and disfigured. God help us all. Forgive us our sin and heal our land. You can do the same thing. All you have to do is lift up the names of these individuals in prayer and God will hear us. Raise your voice during election season and tell these evil individuals, no more. You can vote for candidates that hold the sanctity of life dear and won't allow these sort of evil things to take place.
