Troubles Come

“Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it, and Hezekiah went up to the house of the Lord and spread it before the Lord. And Hezekiah prayed before the Lord and said: "O Lord, the God of Israel, enthroned above the cherubim, you are the God, you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; you have made heaven and earth. Incline your ear, O Lord, and hear; open your eyes, O Lord, and see; and hear the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to mock the living God.”
2nd Kings 19:14-16 ESV

What do you do when you run into an unexpected problem? If you are anything like me, your first step is to try to take control of the situation and then to worry. But does worry solve the problem? NOPE! And if worry doesn't solve the problem, then why worry? When I first read this passage of scripture, I thought about what I would do put in the same position as Hezekiah. Instead of worrying himself sick about the situation that he found himself and his people in, he turned straight to the source of his assurance. If it was me, I might be looking for the first exit I could find and a fast horse.

Troubles come to each of us and most of the time it is when we least expect it. It comes in the death of a loved one or an unexpected job loss or from a surprise diagnosis when we thought we were in great health. It is the times when troubles show up that we have to turn to God first and not our own power. He is the only one that is capable of handling them in the way that will always be in our best interest and most assuredly not the way we thought it would either. His ways are perfect and it always has our best interests in mind.

"Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
Philippians 4:5-7 ESV
