As You Think So You Are

'Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. '

Philippians 4:8-9 ESV

The human mind is a wild and fascinating thing. It is the most complex organ that resides in the human body. A person's brain determines how they experience the world around them. The brain weighs about 3 pounds and contains around 100 billion neurons — cells that carry information. When I think about that it only further cements the divine creation that God has made in us and our lives. I am forever amazed at the truth that a man's mind has the capacity for such greatness while at the same time it can be a breeding ground for so much death and destruction. I am convinced that how we live our life, in relationship to God and to each other, is a battle that is fought daily in our minds.

Every man alive and dead has won and lost battles within his mind. It is an unavoidable human condition. Attitudes come and go, lust is only one thought away, apathy makes us lazy, neglect causes us to fail to care for our families as we should, and every other thought runs around through our minds and comes out in our actions and words. As a man's mind goes so goes his life. What he studies will eventually be his reality.

Today, if you have the opportunity to encounter a victory in your life, think on the power of God that brought that victory to your life. If today you find yourself losing at something, ask God what lesson He wants to teach you through the loss. It is all dependent on the power of the Holy Spirit and is thanks to Jesus Christ, who paid the price for your victory and your losses.
