Decisions

“The proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel: To know wisdom and instruction, to understand words of insight, to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity; to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the youth— Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance, to understand a proverb and a saying, the words of the wise and their riddles. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.” ‭‭Proverbs ‭1:1-7 ‭ESV‬‬

Good decisions require accurately processed information. In our world today we have access to limitless information. It is quite literally at our fingertips every second of every day. Although it is readily and easily available, our brains must still analyze the data we receive and make decisions. The writer of Proverbs knew that people must make good decisions, so he urges each and every reader to attain wisdom and mental discipline and to understand the words of insight.

To be a good leader, you must develop a disciplined and prudent character so that you will do what is right and fair. The quandary is when the leader doesn't know what is right and fair or when any decision they make appears unjust, wrong, or unfair. That is when the novice leader needs to slow down and just breathe. The young leader needs knowledge and discretion to make the right decisions. But everyone of us should heed the words in Proverbs 1:1-7 and seek knowledge and guidance on a daily basis.

The book of Proverbs is in no way a how-to, all inclusive, decision making guide. But what it is, is a wisdom filled book that is God's gift to us all to help us make the best decisions possible. The first six verses of Proverbs chapter one tell us that the proverbs to follow will help you, the reader, to develop the mental sharpness that you will need to process the complex information that gets thrown at you. Even though we have boundless sources of information thrown at us through our technology, a sharp mind must still apply that information so to make good decisions. The proverbs help us to accomplish this goal in God's way, not the world's way. These verses sharpen our minds and reveal God's insight to ensure that our decisions always be in sync with His will and eternal plan.

When a difficult decision presents itself, slow down and allow yourself the time necessary to make a wise and informed decision rather than a hasty and half cocked one.
