Character

A great many people desire a quick fix for their problems. The want some sort of magic wand they can wave over their troubles and be like Harry Potter make their problems all disappear. While a person may be able to acquire and easy ways to provide a short term solution, these won't build the character that will keep them from happening again. Lasting character is forged by experience, self discipline, and dedication. If someone lacks integrity and character, the challenges of life will melt down and undermine any short term successes they may experience.

You might be wondering, how can I gain wisdom that leads to character development? Well I can tell you that it won't be gained by walking through life as in complete darkness. A leader's search for wisdom must be directed. Its starting point is the revelation of God through His word. Everything that it entails is specific and practical.

Character isn't shaped by any intellectual comprehension of the truth. It is made through Biblical truth. A truth that will penetrate to the core of the human heart. That only occurs when a man or woman wrestle with God's word and find its meaning and how to apply it. The goal of such a work is ultimately a revelation that only God can provide, "fear of the Lord." (Proverbs 2:5) A wise leader has a sense of awe of God and holds Him in the highest regard. And that high view of the Lord will shapes their character, which results in a change in thoughts and actions.

Ask yourself this question (one I am asking myself as well.)

Where are you in the process of character development? One being a beginner and a ten being a master. If you are like me you aren't a one and if you're honest, you aren't a ten either. You are probably somewhere in the middle. Join me in thanking God for building character in your life and ask Him to help us grow continually in this important area.

"You shall be careful therefore to do as the Lord your God has commanded you. You shall not turn aside to the right hand or the left. You shall walk in all the way that the Lord your God commanded you, that you may live and that it may go well with you, and that you may live long in the land that you shall possess." Deuteronomy 5:32-33 ESV
