Whose Battle Is It Anyways?

"And he said, "Listen, all Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem and King Jehoshaphat: Thus says the Lord to you, 'Do not be dismayed at this great horde, for the battle is not yours but God's." 2nd Chronicles 20:15 ESV

Every day I come to work I face new challenges. Today it might be a broken down piece of equipment that is critical to our local operation and tomorrow it might be an employee that has decided that they would rather lay at home that earn their pay today. For you it might be something similar or it may be something completely different. You may struggle with the courage to stand up for your beliefs or maybe you have to stand up for yourself but fear has a tight grip on your heart. It might be that some sort of secret sin has its roots deep inside your heart. Sins like: pornography, drug or alcohol abuse, bitterness, anger, jealousy, the list could go on and on.

The question I have for you today is who do you look to to help you with these "struggles?" Do you depend on your best friend to listen to your problems and give you "wise" feedback? Do you depend on your Pastor to direct you in the right way to go? Your spouse? Your parents? Even worse: Yourself? I can tell you from personal experience that trying to depend on yourself and the power you possess to face the battles you see daily let alone the power of another person is a recipe for disaster. There is only one way to face the battles you come to on a day to day basis, you have to realize that the battles that come upon you are not yours alone. God is with you.

Jehoshaphat was surrounded on all sides by enemies. Plain and simple: he was afraid. Friends, there is nothing wrong with being afraid. In our society we have maligned the feeling of fear especially with men to the point that no one wants to admit that they are scared. I think if you sat and thought about it for a minute you would find that you do more things out of fear than you do out of courage. Jehoshaphat did what a man of God is supposed to do when he gets scared, he turned to God and cried out to Him for help. He cried out in faith that God would hear him and that He would save his people. He counted on God keeping His word.

Why did he count on it? Because God always does what He says He will do. If He ceased to answer prayer or if He didn't keep His promises He would cease to be God. Simple as that!

The next time you are face with a "battle" that you can't see yourself winning stop and ask Him for help. You do not have because you do not ask. God is wanting us to come to Him for help. It is part of the relationship that He so greatly desires to have with us. Go to Him. Ask for His help. He will...I promise.
