Memory Bank

Since my wife's passing in December, I have spoken with quite a few people that have gone through the loss of a spouse, some through illness, some through accidents, and some even through acts of violence. Every one that I have spoke to, including me, wishes that they could spend even just a few more minutes with them. Life is very precious and so are the moments that you have with your loved ones. We have to make the most of our time on this earth together.

This made me think about how quickly time passes. How long until the playroom is empty and you don't ruin your feet on that lone lego in the middle of the night? Think about the time with your kids. How long will you have a supreme spot in their life to influence their growth into adulthood? The Bible says that tomorrow isn't guaranteed. You have to take advantage of today's opportunities today!

Whatever seems important to you right this very moment is probably less important than spending time with your spouse or your kids. The time you have passes quickly and before you know it you are old and grey and your kids have moved out on their own. Trust me when I tell you that you don't want to look back with regret, see all the missed opportunities, and wonder what might have been. Everyone wants to look back and see God's fingerprints on their lives and have wonderful memories of the people He has entrusted them to care for.

Stop and listen to God's gentle whisper when He tells you to enjoy the moments of your life. When your spouse - or your kids, friends, or relatives - ask you to spend time with them, set that time aside and don't allow anything to interfere with it. That business deal that is so important will either be there when you get back or another one will come along to replace it. Be with the people who love you, and make lasting memories with them. Invest yourself and your time in the things that really matter before you end up with a life full of regrets. Those are the investments that make a difference and that will last forever. Whatever is going on in your life right now, remember what is truly, eternally important.

"Don't store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal." Matthew 6:19-20
