Sickness

Are you hurting? Physical pain got you down? Or is it emotional? Remember the old saying, "Sticks and Stones can break my bones but words will never hurt me?" Well I am here to tell you that is a bunch of malarkey. Words are some of the most dangerous and hurtful things that we possess in our arsenal. And the wounds that they create can be longer lasting and more painful than any actual physical injury we can incur.

I am here to tell you that there is a way to heal your wounds. The ones that you don't want anyone else to see. The hurts that stay hidden from the outside world.

The Bible teaches that Jesus came to heal our wounds, to bind up and heal our broken hearts, and to give us beauty instead of ashes and the oil of joy instead of mourning as it says in Isaiah 61: 1-3, "The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of the Lord ’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; to grant to those who mourn in Zion - to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit;  that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord , that he may be glorified."

Many Christians read this scripture and know that God wants to heal us from physical and spiritual sickness, but I have found that there's more to it than that. The truth is that our emotions are part of our makeup and they can become just as sick as any other part of us.

The world today is full of people who are suffering from emotional pain. The cause is often abuse, rejection, abandonment, betrayal, disappointment, judgment, criticism or other negative behavior by others. This emotional pain can be more devastating than physical pain because people feel that they have to hide it and pretend it isn't real. As a friend of mine so eloquently once put it "The struggle is real." Men are not immune to this kind of "sickness" but we are often the very ones that ignore it until it is too late.

Guys, if you have an emotional wound in your life, you need to know that Jesus wants to heal you.It takes a real man to admit that he has been wounded and needs help. Don't make the mistake of thinking that Jesus is interested only in your spiritual and physical life. Don't allow the wounds that you carry around on the inside the opportunity to fester and infect every area of your life. Take your wounds to Him. Ask Him to help you. Jesus wants to heal you everywhere you hurt. He wants to bind your wounds and make you the man that He has always intended you to be.

If Jesus can take a bitter, angry, sasquatch sized man and make him into something new He can surely do it with you. Don't wait until it's too late. Allow Him to be the Healer that you need. Don't be afraid to open up. Don't be afraid allow Him to root around in your heart and remove the scabs that need removing so the healing can begin. I can promise you this, it's going to hurt, but the healing that will take place is all the better for you.

Take it from me. This one is Sasquatch tested and Sasquatch approved.
