Assurance

Any good parent will do everything in their power to keep their children safe. But the real truth is that we don't have control over things that happen in this world. We have to live with a certain amount of trust in God and faith that He is watching over us always.

This, my friends, is not as easy as it seems. We like to think that we're in control, even when we know deep down that we aren't. We often try to manipulate the outcomes of our circumstances. We try to manage every variable of each and every situation. We find ways literally and figuratively to insure our possessions and lifestyles against loss. We seek as much control as we can get.

But we know there are dangers and risks in this world and that God is ultimately in control over all of them. So we give up our sense of control and choose to live by faith-we do it all the time. We believe gravity will bring us down each and every time we jump and we believe that the plane we get on will get from one place to the other in one piece. The truth is that God is even more worthy of our trust than any of these things. If we can put our faith in natural laws we can't see, machines, and people, we can almost certainly put our faith in God.

I make a choice every day to trust God with every detail in mine and my families lives. I can't insure that nothing bad will ever happen but what I can tell you is that God will guide us through any situation that He places us in, even the hard ones. God is not a finite being like I am but He is an infinite Father who really does have control over every piece of my life and the life of my family. He wants each and every one of us to live with the same assurance that He is there taking care of us all the time.

Faith is the key that gives us the strength to live confidently and securely....even while we are sleeping.

"Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendations. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible. By faith Abel offered a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts. And through his faith, though he died, he still speaks. By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as having please God. And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him." Hebrews 11:1-6 ESV
