Coming out in the NFL

There will be many a blogger, newspaper man, TV reporter, and more Facebook status updates than are countable, about Michael Sam. If you don't know he is the young defensive end from the University of Missouri that decided yesterday to share his sexuality with the world. Michael was the Co-Defensive Player of the year this past season in the SEC and is expected to be at worst a late second round pick in the May 2014 NFL draft.

Let me say first, that I am not here to bash this young man. I pray for his soul and that God forgive him the sin that he so openly shares with the world. His sin is no worse than the ones that plague me or anyone else in this world. Sin is sin, no matter what the definition is. And God hates sin! His word plainly teaches that sin is death. The only way to be saved from this death is a life in Jesus Christ.

A life in Jesus Christ will remove the sin that stains your life. He makes us strong through our weakness and shows His glory through them. Whether that sin is homosexual sin, heterosexual sin, lying, pornography, greed, sloth, stealing, or any other sin that I haven't mentioned. God can deliver you from what ever sin you suffer with.

I pray that through one of the Christian men on which ever team that young Michael gets drafted by gets an opportunity to witness to Him about the love of Christ and the free forgiveness that He offers.

My fear is that Christians as whole will be further stigmatized as a result of hate speech in Christ's name. And sad to say there will be exactly that. There will be those that will spew hate and fear to anyone that will listen.

I don't hate a gay man or woman any more than I hate someone that lies or steals from me. I pray that God find them someday and that He redeem them and save them from the death that we all face without Christ as Lord of our life.

I am simply as sinner that was saved by grace that I can not fully understand or comprehend. And you can be too! All you have to do is ask!
